The use of waterjet cutting focuses on three aspects. On the one hand, it is the cutting of non combustible materials, such as marble, ceramic tile, glass, cement products and other materials, because these are materials that cannot be processed by thermal cutting process; The other is cutting inflammable and explosive materials, such as ammunition and cutting in inflammable and explosive environment, which cannot be replaced by other processing methods.

The cutting of combustible materials is also the operation object of waterjet cutting, including steel plate, plastic, cloth, polyurethane, wood, leather, rubber, etc. Although thermal cutting can also process these materials, it is easy to produce combustion areas and burrs. The application of waterjet cutting can reduce the occurrence of similar problems and ensure that the physical and mechanical properties of the cut materials do not change.

Generally, if laser, plasma, flame, wire cutting, sawing, milling and other processing methods can basically meet the processing process requirements, water cutting processing should not be used. After all, the operation cost of waterjet cutting is high, and nozzles, guide sleeves, high-pressure seals are consumables, which are expensive.

However, if the thickness that can be cut by laser and plasma is too thin, the burrs generated are too large, and the heat affected zone is unfavorable, waterjet cutting can be considered for water cutting. Or when the burr of flame cutting is too large, the roughness is too poor, and the heat affected zone is too large, water cutting can also be used.
